The Chazan Gallery is presenting New Work by Peter Diepenbrock and Jason Fiering from January 11 to January 31, 2013. There will be an opening reception for the artists on Friday, January 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Peter Diepenbrock creates monumental welded metal sculpture with a strong emphasis on form and design. Through repeating patterns and undulating surfaces, Diepenbrock develops forms that evoke an awareness of universal forces. He writes, "The dichotomy that intrigues me, is this use of solid materials to explore notions about the ephemeral nature of the universe: that most everything that surrounds us, is composed of atomic particles with essentially no substance. In this sense my 'abstractions' are studies from nature, only a 'nature' that cannot easily be seen - only imagined." Also on display are small maquettes which demonstrate the process and development of ideas for these large, complex sculptures.

Diepenbrock is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he earned both a BFA and a BA in Industrial Design. His work has been exhibited at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA, the Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI and Lenore Gray Gallery in Providence, RI. He has completed public commissions, including The Ark and Yahrzeit Memorial for Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley MA, Torsion III for the University of Rhode Island, as well as numerous private commissions in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and California.

Jason Fiering's geometric abstractions explore the complex experience of visual perception in the first half-second of vision; he seeks to capture the instantaneous moments at which images are processed and arise into consciousness. Fiering writes, "I attempt to capture for extended contemplation an experience that is usually instantaneous. My paintings remain in the liminal and transient state of becoming visible, becoming identifiable, becoming rational."

Fiering has exhibited at the Providence Art Club, Providence RI and the Hunt-Cavanagh Gallery, Providence RI, as well as the New Bedford Whaling Museum and the New Bedford Art Museum, New Bedford MA. He was the recipient of the Solo Show Award at the Bromfield Gallery, Boston MA in 2006. Fiering has completed artist residencies at I-Park, East Haddam CT and Ox-Bow, Saugatuck MI. He received a Masters of Science from Duke University, and a BA (Honors) in Physics from Wesleyan University.
